Human Rights and Money

Image
Dear Colleagues, Today in the morning, I was having breakfast with two friends and colleagues of mine and we were talking about Human rights work and how sometimes it varies depending on culture, country and even families. however along the way there was an issue that was raised; about human rights and money. one of my two friends believes that money is everything, he believes that money gives power so he believes the best way to engage in human rights advocacy you need money to be able to do your advocacy; in his own words, he says; I strongly believe that my work as a human rights activist would make sense if I was a big business person with lots of money because then I would have influence that would actually put me at a negotiation table to influence policies and so protect those who are oppressed, I feel that I don't have to alert the international community or the other partners to give some one a protection he/she deserves before I consulting anyone; I would feel valuable

Graduation ceremony

Image
The last day of the conference I was just going around and talking to some people and I heard some of my friends or fellow participants whispering that we are soon going to be graduating with Honors in Human Rights work. I don't know if they were joking or serious about what they were talking about but I thought they made sense in what they were talking about; after sharing with almost every cabinet member of the Republic of Rwanda, Professors from the fields of Human Rights, experience sharing and common ground understanding, some times managing the tensions of understanding to agree to disagree as a basis for human rights, sharing with communities through the community work in the 3 districts that we visited but most importantly the enthusiasm and love the participants, facilitators, presenters and honorable contributors to the conference deserved Honors in Human Rights. I would just like to request that next time in our graduation we should not forget our Prime Minister who com

Aaah, I have just remembered how many friends I met in the Inter generational youth forum and I missed them. Kwabena Tandoh (The Great One Born on Tuesday), I mean, thanks for inspiring me and filling me with the pride of AFRICA. the spirit and enthusiasm you have about AFRICAN issues revived me and gave me hope that together with our leaders we can make a better tomorrow for AFRICA. some of the important words I remember from his conversation include; 1. We are the future of our continent 2. We need to become friends and build our communities 3. Ganasa which normaly should have been Gasana - how he used to call my name upside down was funny and some people started thinking its another meaning of my name in Ghanaian Language. KB thanks for inspiring, engaging and reviving my spirit to stand on my feet irrespective of all; thanks for reminding me that Integrity and personality cannot be bought. your humanity and feelings for your people is an obsession; thanks for reminding me that we a

How do I say it

Oh my God, Now am trying to process all the important information that I really had the opportunity to hear and contemplate on while participating in the Inter generational Youth Leadership Forum. where I met intelligent people from 22 countries but most importantly the speakers at the conference were really inspiring. Meeting the members of Cabinet of the Republic of Rwanda was such an honor to feed from the right source. - discussing and sharing with Dr. Omara Otunnu built my confidence and revived by commitment to the work of Human Rights with a focus on AFRICA but not only that his humor was inspiring and commitment to human rights very sincere. - A discussion by Dr. Rafael made me miss my graduate school; His experience in NUTRITION can make you go back to school and do public health or nutrition studies to be one of his students. - Professor Shyamala became my role model because if she can every woman can - Professor Gerry Caplan, thanks for your love and passion for Rwanda hope
